Ludhiana: Newly appointed city
BJP president Rajnesh Dhiman will officially assume his charge on Friday in the presence of state party president Ashwani Sharma and other leaders. As soon as he will take this responsibility, his first challenge will be MC elections and get strong position for the saffron party in MC house. The saffron party is contesting independently for the first time in MC and it would be a great challenge for the leaders to gain seats because when the BJP had support of the
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), the party could manage only 10 seats in previous house. However now leaders are claiming to get more seats along with mayor from the BJP.
While talking to TOI, Dhiman claimed that he was aware of the upcoming challenges and was ready to deal with the issues. “We are waiting for the government notification for MC polls and the final notification for ward delimitation so that we could come to know about new wards. The candidates could be fielded according to new ward delimitation and we would be going ahead with the process to finalise the candidates.” He claimed that the BJP would contest at all 95 seats of its own and this time workers, who worked very hard at ground level, would be given a chance.
Regarding joining of other party leaders and councillors, he said, “If anybody wants to join the party we cannot deny, but we are very selective in these joining as in the past two such people were shown the doors as they were not good for the party.” He further said the ruling party was not in a condition to win the elections as public was no more interested in their lies and the Congress had lost its charm long ago while Shiromani Akali Dal lost the ground so only the BJP has the chance.
Dhiman said they would take up public issues and the major issue in elections would be the usage of Smart City funds for development works as the Congress in the past and now even the Aam Aadmi Party leadership was taking the credit of works being done with the funding of the Central government. Dhiman has been associated with the BJP for the past 35 years and has remained at various positions. He remained district vice-president, in charge of three cities, including Malerkotla, Khanna and Fatehgarh Sahib. He had started his political career as a ward president.
