Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Friday asked Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann to tender a public apology, claiming that he made “offending remarks” against its members and Sikh traditions.
The SGPC asked the CM to be prepared for legal action if he didn’t apologise. They also handed over memorandums seeking an apology from Mann to the deputy commissioners across Punjab.
Talking to media after handing over a memorandum to Amritsar deputy commissioner Harpreet Singh Sudan here, SGPC member Rajinder Singh Mehta alleged that the chief minister had mocked the Sikh tradition of “sewa”, including “guru ki golak” and “langar”.
He claimed that the CM’s remarks hurt Sikh religious sentiments.
Recently, a video of Mann had gone viral in which he had asked people against offering money in the golaks (donation boxes) of gurdwaras.
