Snatcher stabs ASI multiple times while evading arrest in Delhi
ASI Shambhu Dayal’s condition is said to be stable
NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old man stabbed a Delhi Police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) multiple times when the latter was trying to arrest him for alleged snatching in Mayapuri.
ASI Shambhu Dayal is undergoing treatment at BLK Hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable.
Police said on Wednesday evening, a woman informed them that someone had snatched the phone of her husband and threatened the couple.
ASI Dayal was deputed on the call and, along with the complainant, reached the slum areas in Rewari Line Phase I, where the woman pointed towards a person who had allegedly snatched the mobile phone. Dayal approached the man, who was later identified as Anish.
However, as he tried to take him along to Mayapuri police station, the accused suddenly pulled out a knife hidden underneath his shirt and allegedly attacked the cop on various parts of his body, including his neck, chest, stomach and back.
The police staff from Mayapuri immediately reached the spot, overpowered the man and recovered a knife from his possession. Police have registered a case under sections of assaulting a public servant from discharge of duties, attempt to murder, voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty and under the Arms Act.
