Nagpur: Though scholarly works of many women from postgraduate departments and affiliated colleges have thousands of research citations from across the globe, the Nagpur University (NU) has failed to given them any recognition during the 108th Indian Science Congress (ISC) on its campus.
Not just this, the vice chancellor SR Chaudhari’s bio data too is missing from the university website. The VC is facing flak for allegedly promoting unqualified persons and those from his own private engineering college during the mega event despite no dearth of in-house talented researchers.
The ISC theme is spun around women empowerment with even PM Narendra Modi acknowledging their contribution in nation building during the inauguration.
Former senate member Manmohan Bajpai has written to the VC to share his biodata along with list of his publications on the website to motivate guests, stakeholders, teachers, researchers and students at the ISC.
“Today is third day of 108th Indian Science Congress, this prestigious event is going on under the leadership and chairmanship of vice chancellor of Nagpur University Subhash Chaudhari. Scientists, delegates, students, teachers, many dignitaries, industrialists, businessmen, stakeholders of university, leaders and others from different fields are attending this mega event. I request the hon’ble vice chancellor to share his biodata on the website of university to motivate them,” Bajpai’s letter read.
Bajpai claimed that it is a right of all these stakeholders to know the academic credentials of a person who is leading the event. “Surprisingly the biodata of VC is not on the web nor displayed any where on the premises,” he said.
Chaudhari didn’t answer TOI’s calls. Earlier this year, TOI had also sought Chaudhari’s biodata from the governor’s office in April. Till date, the office has not responded to TOI’s queries which were made after it came to fore that Chaudhari’s biodata was not uploaded.
Lack of publications is said to be the main reason for keeping VC’s biodata under wraps.
A VC without any notable research work is unlikely to recognise the contribution of researchers from the university, officials said.
“The university has not even put up number of its women teachers or those in affiliated colleges, number of women researchers, women on higher positions/positions of authority in its administration anywhere in the ISC venue. Forgot about recognition/awards given to women,” they said.
