Tamil Nadu CM Stalin greets tribal students for medal haul at National Sports Meet

CHENNAI: ST community students studying in Eklavya model residential schools in Tamil Nadu have made a medal haul at the third National Sports Meet held in Vijayawada recently.
On Wednesday, chief minister M K Stalin congratulated these students when they met him at the secretariat.
A total of 177 students from Eklavya model residential schools participated at the National Sports Meet held in Vijayawada from Dec 17 to 22 last year. They won ten gold, 27 silver and thirty bronze medals. Tamil Nadu secured the fifth place among the states.
Tamil Nadu has 36 tribal communities, with a population of 7.94 lakh, which is about 1.10% of the total population of the state. There are 320 government adi dravida residential schools and eight Eklavya model residential schools. A total of 2,606 students study in these Eklavya model residential schools.
Eklavya model residential schools were established in 1997-1998 to give quality education to tribal students in remote areas.
