PUNE: Over 6,000 employees from the Pune zone of the three state-owned power companies associated with generation, transmission and distribution will take part in a three-day strike from Wednesday in protest against their privatisation.
The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limitedted (MSEDCL), Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited and Maharashtra State Electricity Generation Comany Limited are the state-owned companies. The action committee of power firm unions Maharashtra Rajya Karmachari, Adhikari, and Abhiyanta Sangharsh Samiti has given the strike call.
Ishwar Wable, Pune zonal secretary, Maharashtra State Electricity Workers' Federation, said, "A meeting has been called with energy minister and deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday to discuss the issues."
In response to the strike call, Pune zonal officials of MSEDCL said they have set up an emergency system to ensure smooth supply in the (Pune) circle. As part of the system, 24-hour control rooms have been set up at the department, division and circle levels.
The MSEDCL statement also appealed to the people to not pay heed to messages circulating on social media claiming that power supply would be shut during the strike period.
