Ludhiana: Irked over the delay in completion of the ongoing construction work of the railway over bridge / railway under bridge (ROB/RUB) at Pakhowal Road railway crossing, the team of NGO Yuva Morcha staged a protest at the construction site on Tuesday along with a few shopkeepers.
NGO member Kumar Gaurav, who led the protest, wore a bell around his neck to give a wake up call to the civic officials for finishing the project.
However, the officials claimed that project would be completed by June at the most.
The civic body decided to close down one side of Pakhowal Road for shifting of the sewer line. It is only after this that rest of the work will take place, and the work could take a few days.
Gaurav said, “Construction has been going since 2008. Officials are delaying the work, causing cost escalation of this project.”
Gaurav added that authorities should take action against those officials who did not perform their duty and complete the work in set deadline.
Meanwhile the officiating commissioner of the municipal corporation (MC), Aaditya Dachalwal said, “The project work got delayed due to delay in shifting of sewer line. Now everything is fixed and we are trying to complete the work by June.”
Streetlights also not present inside RUBMeanwhile, the protesting shopkeepers claimed that one part of the RUB has been completed and is being used for the past few months, but there were no provision of lights inside it, and people faced a tough time during nights, especially during the foggy winter. In case any major incident happened, then who is going to take the responsibility, they asked.
However on the other hand, the civic officials stated they had asked the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) for the connection so that provision of streetlights could be made here.
