T'PURAM: Senior Congress MP K Muraleedharan criticized the delay in organizational revamp in the party.
"CPM has started house visits and BJP is gearing up with a progress card as part of their Lok Sabha election campaigns. We are still having discussions on organizational revamp. Congress should not lag and it should begin grassroots-level work. But this does not imply that the leadership of the party should change," he said while speaking at K Karunakaran memorial function on Tuesday.
Muraleedharan said that the party needs to become active among the people and speeches alone will not do any good for it. "The party will not withstand one more defeat. The organizational revamp should not be discussed by only two leaders. There should be a collective discussion in the party and grassroots-level committees should be revamped soon," he said.
However, another senior leader
Ramesh Chennithala tried to evade the questions on organizational revamp in the party. He said that all matters regarding the revamp should be answered by the KPCC chief.
Muraleedharan also took a dig at the previous Congress-led government. "There was a demand to name Nedumbassery airport in the memory of K Karunakaran. This was also possible then as Congress was in power here and also at the Centre. But there was no move to realize the same," he said, adding that this incident remained as a painful experience.
Congress MP
Shashi Tharoor, who was also present at the function too supported Muraleedharan's demand, and said Nedumbassery airport should be named after Karunakaran.
