Mysuru: For Mysureans, Jnanayogasgrama seer Siddheshwar Swami is one of the most revered seers. He used to frequently visit various parts of the district especially Suttur mutt.
Last year on the eve of the International Day of Yoga, the seer was here to launch his three books by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The PM released the books ‘Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras: A Commentary’, ‘Shiva Sutras’ and ‘Narada Bakti Sutras’. Modi had said that Siddeshwara Swami belongs to the ‘shruti’ tradition of ancient India.
In his speech, Siddheshwara Swami said all his three books were on yoga and it was destined to be released by Modi as he is a “yogi”. He also referred to PM Modi’s mother in the speech. Modi was moved by the seer’s speech and acknowledged the praises heaped by the seer. As the seer spoke in Kannada, Suttur mutt seer Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami, who was sitting next to the PM, translated his speech to Modi.
In his condolence message, Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami recalled his association with Siddeshwara mutt. “He was visiting the mutt every year and spreading knowledge through his preachings,” he said.
Siddheshwar Swami was a regular speaker at the summer camps organised by the Suttur mutt every year. His preachings, both in Kannada and English, were popular among both students, youths, and professionals.
On October 16, 2012, Siddheshwar seer inaugurated the Dasara festival. In his speech, the seer stressed that Kannadigas must to resolve controversial regional barriers - South and North Karnataka - through mutual trust and love. The highlight of the inaugural event was that he refused the felicitation offered by the reception committee.
According to the devotees, till recently the seer was a regular visitor to various social, and religious events across the district and neighbouring Chamarajanagar.
