COIMBATORE: A man stabbed his brother to death during a drunken brawl between them in Coimbatore on Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as R Aruchamy, 42, of Vadapudur near Kinathukadavu. He was a security guard.
Aruchamy used to drink alcohol and pick up quarrel with others. He married Sumathi eight years ago. His wife left him seven months ago due to his alcoholism.
Aruchamy was staying with his elder brother R Mahalingam, 50.
On Saturday night, Aruchamy and Mahalingam drank alcohol and went home. A dispute broke out between them in front of their house. Aruchamy took a log and hit Mahalingam on his head. Mahalingam took a sharp weapon and stabbed Aruchamy on his stomach.
Aruchamy tied the stab wound with a towel and chased Mahalingam to attack him. Aruchamy fell unconscious at Vadapudur bus stop. Villagers rushed him to hospital, but doctors declared that he was brought dead.
The Kinathukadavu police registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC and began a search for Mahalingam.
