After NMC razes meat shops, builder & others encroach on part of NMC land
Nagpur: A casual attitude of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has resulted in a builder using a part of the civic body’s land which it had taken under its possession after demolishing eight meat shops a few months ago. The NMC barricaded only a part of the land.
A builder’s representative said permission has been sought to use the land located in Omkar Nagar and admits the NMC is yet to give it. The officials of Hanuman Nagar zone have turned a blind eye to this encroachment.
After TOI’s report on June 29. the NMC had razed the encroachment by the meat shops and civic chief Radhakrishnan had ordered that the land be fenced out. It failed to protect the side which is adjacent to the plot owned by Gandhi Builders.
Sanjay Band of Gandhi Builders said, “I will stop using the land after we complete our work.”
Gandhi Builders is constructing a commercial-cum-residential building on its plot. It has got access to NMC land as the civic body has failed to demarcate the properties. Since a month, the builder is dumping mud excavated from its plot on the NMC-owned land.
NMC officials said that no permission has been given to the builder to use the land and “appropriate action will be taken”. “We are in the process of demarcating the land acquired and owned by the state government from Omkar Nagar Square to Shatabdi Square,” they said.
Bandh said that six more plot owners have encroached on the NMC land.
The NMC’s land is said to be around 10 feet from end of footpath. Encroachments can also be seen in the remaining patch of the strip before Shatabdi Square.
