NOIDA: The ongoing construction work in the capital to link the Ashram flyover with the DND flyway caused massive traffic congestion at the Delhi-Noida border on Wednesday evening.
Hundreds of vehicles to and fro Delhi were impacted due to the congestion as they crawled bumper-to-bumper between the Chilla border and the Mahamaya Flyover.
"The congestion at the Delhi-Noida border peaked between 6.30 pm and 8 pm which is considered the peak traffic rush hours. Vehicular movement eased around 8.30 pm and by 9 pm it was a smooth flow," a Noida Traffic police official told PTI.
The traffic police had earlier issued an advisory and cautioned commuters about the bottleneck on the route due to the construction work in Delhi.
"In view of the construction to join the Ashram flyover with the Y-point at Maharani Bagh, the traffic going to Ashram (in Delhi) via DND will go through the service lane.
"Due to the increased load on the Ashram-Maharani Bagh route, the pressure has also increased on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway," the advisory issued on Tuesday stated.
The traffic police advised people to opt for DND's alternative roads like the Ashok Nagar or Jhandupura border routes to avoid inconvenience. For real-time assistance, the Noida traffic police shared its helpline number 9971009001.
The Ashram Flyover has been closed for 45 days from January 1 for the construction of the connecting road.
The Delhi Police has also cautioned commuters in south and southeast areas of the national capital to plan their journeys well in advance due to the closure.
