National green hydrogen mission a historic decision: Union minister Anurag Thakur

Union minister Anurag Thakur said the mission aims to make India a global hub for production, utilisation and export of green hydrogen. "I think it will be a historic step in that direction ... [the mission] will help India in becoming energy-independent and in the de-carbonisation of major sectors," he said. He added that the mission will attract Rs 8 lakh crore investment in the next 4-5 years, create over 6 lakh jobs and lead to Rs 1 lakh crore worth of reduction in fossil fuels. Earlier today, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the National Green Hydrogen Mission with an outlay of Rs 19,744 crore with an aim to make India a global hub for manufacturing of this clean source of energy.
