Haldwani: Verge of losing home, thousands protest against Railway's evacuation drive

Thousands of residents in Haldwani staged a protest in a bid to protect their homes. Uttarakhand high court in December 2022 asked the administration to remove the encroachments from the railway land. Residents of the Banbhoolpura area have been served notice to evict the land. More than 4,000 families face the threat of being removed from their homes after the court order. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the high court's order. The Supreme Court will hear the matter on January 5.
