Took NOC from p’yat before starting work, says Nagarjuna
The actor has asked the panchayat to withdraw its stop work order and said that the omission on the part of the panchayat has already led to business loss for him and defamed his image in public life
Panaji: The Mandrem panchayat has asked Telugu actor Nagarjuna Rao Akkineni to remain present for a site inspection on January 7 at 10.30am, at his property in Ashvewada, Mandrem, where alleged illegal construction has been carried out.
Rao was earlier issued a stop work order by the panchayat, to which the actor has filed his reply. The Mandrem panchayat has, however, said that the reply was not found to be satisfactory.
In his reply to the Mandrem panchayat, Rao has denied carrying out any illegal activity and stated that he had sought permissions to construct 16 temporary cottages and a restaurant. He said that he had intended to run a business from the premises, and the panchayat had already granted its no objection certificate.
The actor has asked the panchayat to withdraw its stop work order in the interest of natural justice, adding that the omission on the part of the panchayat has already led to business loss for him and defamed his image in public life.
Last month, during an inspection, the Mandrem panchayat found that multiple deep holes had been excavated at the property owned by Rao and that no board with details of the project, as required, had been erected at the site. Panchayat officials said that the property is located on a hillside, and, upon verification, no documents granting permission for any project were found in their records.
“As the reply filed by you for the stop notice issued by this office was placed in the fortnightly meeting dated December 29, 2022, and it is resolved that the said reply is not satisfactory, you are hereby informed to remain present in this village panchayat office to proceed for site inspection with your property documents and permission, if any, given by this panchayat without fail,” Mandrem sarpanch Amit Sawant said in the notice.
The panchayat said that if Rao does not report for the inspection, it will be carried out in his absence.
