Nagpur: Even though one cub of problem tigress T6 from Gadchiroli has been killed by another animal on Tuesday, the state PCCF (wildlife) Maheep Gupta has reissued orders to capture the remaining three cubs along with the tigress. The tigress has claimed 10 lives.
Earlier, capture orders were issued when it had killed eight persons. After the sighting of the four cubs, the drive to capture T6 was deferred but on December 23 and 26, two more persons were killed in Wadsa and Gadchiroli ranges. The drive to capture it was renewed.
As reported by TOI, order issued in December first week orders were deferred after it was sighted with four cubs on December 7. The cubs are four-month-old. On Tuesday, one of the cubs was found to have been attacked and killed probably by another tiger.
Gupta said time is running out and “we have no option but to capture the cubs and the tigress”. “People of Gadchiroli and Wadsa have threatened to launch a stir and the law and order situation may go out of hands,” he added.
“With T6 attacking humans, the cubs might also grow up and turn man eaters. Though we don’t have space to keep them, something will be worked out,” said Gupta.
Gadchiroli deputy conservator Milish Sharma said the carcass of the cub was noticed at 1.30 pm by a patrolling team. “We suspect it to be a handiwork of a male tiger as scat was found near the carcass. Monitoring has been intensified and the thermal drone is also being used to keep track of the tigress and cubs. We have also fixed at least 75 camera traps,” said Sharma.
