Traffic app to soon make commuting easier in Rajkot
Rajkot: Rajkot would be the first city in Gujarat where commuters would get real time updates about traffic hassles using ‘Map My India’ mobile application. With this, Rajkot has added to the list of select few cities in the country that can enjoy this service.
If all goes as planned, the city traffic police, which is in final talks for collaboration with the app developers will ink an MoU next week.
While mobile map is not uncommon, commuters do not get accurate status of the roads including real-time updates of its current situation like temporary closure due to VIP movement, etc on the current map services. With this app, commuters now will be able to navigate better with information on any construction work on road or diversions among others in real time.
According to sources, Rajkot city traffic police would provide real time data to the app developers like diversion of the roads, traffic jams, dug up roads, speed breakers on the road, potholes on the road, the best alternative road in case of road closer, information about VIP movement etc, which would be available for the users.
Talking to TOI, deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) Pooja Yadav said, “We will depute a nodal officer, who would take details of traffic and road situation from our field staff and feed these to the app, which will help users commute easily and safely.”
The police would also invite commuters to provide data but it would be available for other commuters only after verification. Traffic police officers claim they have fixed speed limit on each road and if anybody is found speeding, the app would warn and ask the driver to maintain prescribed speed limit.
