Honey-trapping: 3 conmen arrested
Kanpur: In a case of honey trap in the city, a gang of fraudsters trapped a worker of the Ordnance Factory through social media. On Monday, three members of the gang were arrested in a joint investigation by Govind Nagar Police and the Crime Branch.
On June 16, 2021, an Ordnance Factory worker and a resident of Gujaini of Govind Nagar police station area received a friendship request on Facebook by one Anjali Mehta. She asked him his WhatsApp number and made his obscene videos through video calling. Later, the worker got a call from the woman, who demanded Rs 15,500 per video, threatening him of making the videos viral. The worker deposited Rs 65,000 in the mentioned bank account on June 18 and similarly gave Rs 28.74 lakh to the woman. The worker lodged a complaint with the Crime branch, after which a case was registered at the Govind Nagar police station. The police arrested three persons while the woman is still at large. “The arrested persons have been identified as Ashok Kumar of village Bhindwas, Jhajjar district of Haryana, Bhagwat Prasad, a resident of Paintha, Govardhan police station area of Mathura and Sonu, resident of Ramnagar, Jagdishpura, Agra. The police are trying to nab other members of the gang including the woman,” said DCP Crime Salman Taj Patil.TNN
