    International News Live Updates: The toll from a Ukrainian New Year strike in Makiivka has risen to 89, Moscow said on Wednesday, after Russians gathered to mourn the troops in a rare public display of anger and grief. Russia said in the early hours of Wednesday that more bodies had been found under the rubble in the town of Makiivka in the Russian-controlled region of Donetsk and the toll had risen to 89. The defence ministry declared that the tragedy had taken place because Russian troops had used cell phones, giving away their location to Ukrainian forces.

    FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried pleaded not guilty in Manhattan federal court on Tuesday to charges that he cheated investors and looted customer deposits on his cryptocurrency trading platform as a judge set a tentative trial date for October. Bankman-Fried, 30, denied charges accusing him of illegally diverting massive sums of customer money from FTX to make lavish real estate purchases, donate money to politicians and make risky trades at Alameda Research, his cryptocurrency hedge fund trading firm. Bankman-Fried's attorney, Mark Cohen, announced his client's plea, saying: “He pleads not guilty to all counts."

    U.S. FDA allows abortion pills to be sold at retail pharmacies -GenBioPro says

    Retail pharmacies will now be allowed to offer abortion pills in the United States under a regulatory change made by the Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday, GenBioPro, the manufacturer of Abortion pill mifepristone, said in an emailed statement. The “in-person” requirement that patients see healthcare providers in physical locations which was temporarily removed during the Public Health Emergency, is now permanently removed, GenBioPro said, quoting Danco Laboratories, which makes Mifeprex, another medication to end an early pregnancy.

    5 countries start responsibilities as newly elected members of UNSC

    Japanese factory activity fell in December at the sharpest pace in 26 months, a business survey showed on Wednesday, with companies seeing further declines amid a global economic slowdown.
