Jaipur: Heart retrieved from a 46-year-old brain-dead person on Monday was transplanted into a 38-year-old woman in Medanta Hospital, Gurugram.
According to State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), since no suitable heart recipient was available in the state, they coordinated with National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) to help find a suitable recipient of the man’s heart. His heart was flown to Gurugram for transplantation.
SOTTO officials said that NOTTO informed them that a 38-year-old woman at Medanta Hospital needed heart transplant. SOTTO created a green corridor from SMS Hospital to Jaipur airport for transporting his heart by flight.
Santosh Kajodmal, 46, gave a new lease of life to four persons after his family gave consent to donate his organs in the city on Monday. He was declared brain dead while undergoing treatment at Sawai Man Singh Hospital.
His kidneys were transplanted into two patients suffering from chronic kidney disease at SMS Hospital.
SMS Hospital, HOD (Urology), Dr Shivam Priyadarshi said, “His one kidney has been transplanted into a 49-year-old woman from Laxmangarh and another in a 42-year-old woman of Jaipur. They are under postoperative care at the hospital.”
He said that two teams had worked simultaneously to perform the kidney transplant.
His liver was also harvested with the consent of the family and donated to a 31-year-old woman, a resident of Dholpur, at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital.
The woman was suffering from liver disease and she needed a transplant. The liver donated by the man’s family gave a new lease of life to the woman, who is now under postoperative care at the hospital.
