BSL to install waste disposal plant this year, says director
Bokaro: The Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) will install an integrated waste management disposal plant and a sewage treatment plant (STP) this year, BSL’s director in-charge Amarendu Prakash said on Monday. Both projects are estimated to cost around Rs 250 crore.
The STP will be based on the Namami Gange model in which waste water discharged from sewage will be treated and reused for steel-making in the plant. The facility will be able to treat 30 million gallon water per day generated from the township. “The dependency of BSL on Tenughat dam will reduce as one tonne of crude steel production requires 3,500 litres of water,” he said, adding, “we are soon going to float a tender for its installation. The plant will be built behind City College area of Sector-6.”
The BSL township currently has a population of 2 lakh people. Around 85-90 metric tonnes of garbage and waste generated from 39,000 households and 8,100 commercial units are disposed of in an open field between Sector-6 and 11, posing health hazard risks.
