MEERUT: An argument over calling names among five friends during a drinking session turned into a fight, in which a 22-year-old man was stabbed to death on Monday night.
The murder took place in Prem Nagar colony of Mavana in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district, said police on Tuesday.
According to police, the victim, Lakshay Singh, had gone out with four friends around 6 pm on Monday, and when he didn't return home till 10 pm, his mother, Mamta Singh, dialled his mobile number. Lakshay's friend Raja Kumar (23) answered the call and told the former's mother that he would reach home in about 30 minutes.
At around 10.30pm, the doorbell rang, and when Mamta opened the door, she found Lakshya's body lying in front of her house. She claimed that she saw two of her son's friends, including one Raja Kumar, running away after dumping the body.
With the help of neighbours, Mamta rushed Lakshay to a nearby community health centre (CHC), where doctors declared him dead.
CHC Mavana in-charge Dr Anil Sharma said, "Initial examination revealed that there were cut marks on the victim's chest. Further details will be clear after getting the autopsy report."
Circle officer Mavana Ashish Sharma said, "All the four accused have been arrested. During the probe, Raja revealed that Lakshay got angry when his friends passed some remarks at him while they all were drinking together. Soon an altercation happened, and one of the four accused attacked Lakshay with a knife, and the other three joined him. Later, they carried Lakshay's body and dumped it in front of his house."
"The body has been sent for post-mortem. A case under relevant sections of IPC against all the four accused has been registered on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim's family," said the circle officer. Lakshay's father works as a shift in-charge at a sugar mill in Hardoi.
