Coal-laden truck torched after villager hit by vehicle
Dumka: A 50-year-old man who was staging a protest against regular accidents caused by coal-laden trucks in the area was killed by a similar heavy vehicle near Durgapur village under Gopikandar police station in Dumka district along Dumka-Pakur road on Sunday.
Following the death of the man, locals torched the vehicle. The deceased was identified as Kaddu Rai. He was rushed to Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital, but was declared dead. Another injured is currently critical.
Dumka DSP Noor Mustafa Ansari, who rushed to the spot to control the situation, said that the road blockade was lifted after assurances of suitable compensation to the dependents of the deceased. He said, “Separate FIRs have been lodged against the unknown persons in connection with the accidental deaths and torching of the vehicle by the mob."
Traffic along Dumka-Pakur road has increased tremendously following the start of coal transport from Amrapara in Pakur district to the coal rake point located at Dumka railway station a couple of months ago.
