Panaji: BJP state president Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Tuesday urged local bodies to adopt resolutions urging the Union government to withdraw the approval granted to the modified detailed project report (DPR) of the Kalasa-Bhandura (canal) drinking water project on the Mhadei river.
Tanavade said that they will urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda to withdraw the approval granted to the modified DPR.
“The party will start a signature campaign to protect Mhadei. I will request all local bodies, including panchayats and municipalities, which are under BJP panels to adopt a resolution urging the Centre to withdraw the consent given to the Karnataka DPR on Mhadei,” Tanavade said.
BJP held a meeting of its officer-bearers as well as morcha and core committees to finalise a road map on the Mhadei issue. Chief minister Pramod Sawant also briefed the party over the Mhadei issue. “We will send the copy of resolution to Modi, Shah and Nadda,” Tanavade said.
“Status quo should be maintained on the Mhadei issue till the Supreme Court gives its verdict,” he said.
Tanavade hit out at the opposition for not attending the all-party meeting which was called to chalk out a plan for the Mhadei battle. “Why are elected representatives not together in Goa on the Mhadei issue like in Karnataka,” he said.
“In the wake of the no objection certificate (NOC) received by Karnataka all necessary measures will be taken by the state government. It is in times like these when we need to stand united irrespective of the parties we represent,” he said.
He added, “Opposition MLA’s decision to boycott the meeting called by the chief minister shows where their interests lie. They want to use this issue to further their political agenda.”
