Thiruvananthapuram: The Putharikandam ground now wears a new look, thanks to the upgradation works done under the Smart City project. The project’s core components envisaged by the Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Ltd included construction of two open-air theatres with 500 seating capacity and 16 shops underneath the seating area of the theatre galleries.
An art gallery in a ‘nalukettu’ style with ‘tulsi thara’ theme park with yoga space, children’s park, open gym equipment have also been set up.
A walking track with distance marking on the ground,
rain shelters, gallery spaces on either side of the stage are the other features. The project cost was estimated to be Rs 11.58 crore.
Minister for tourism P A Mohamed Riyas inaugurated the revamped Putharikandam ground on Saturday.
