COIMBATORE: The Saravanampatti police arrested four men on Sunday for robbing a gold chain, a gold ring and a mobile phone from a home care nurse at knifepoint on Thudiyalur Road early in the morning. The nurse befriended one of the gang members through a free gay dating app and was meeting him when the crime was committed.
The arrested men were identified as R Karthikeyan, 27, from Kovilpatti in Tuticorin district, V Mariselvam, 23, from Kayathar in Tirunelveli district, R Abhiram, 19, from Kandanur in Trichy district, and R Hari Vishnu, 21, from Pannaikadu in Dindigul district. They were booked under Section 392 of the IPC.
The nurse, a native of Ramanathapuram district, is staying at Saravanampatti. In his complaint to inspector R Senthilkumar on Sunday, the nurse said, “He befriended a man introduced himself as Rocky on the app a few days ago and exchanged their mobile numbers.
They decided to meet up. Rocky picked him up near a petrol bunk at Saravanampatti and they went to a spot near a private school on Thudiyalur Road around 11pm and were talking. Suddenly, three men came there on two motorcycles and abused the nurse using filthy words.
One of the men threatened him at knifepoint and robbed him of six grams of a gold chain, two grams of a gold ring and a mobile phone.”Police registered a case and formed a special team to nab the robbers.
“We arrested the three men. When questioned them, we found that Rocky’s real name was Karthikeyan and he was the one who hatched the robbery plan. Subsequently, we arrested him,” the officer said.
