Carla Glombowski expected to welcome her third child to the world in late December.

But when Madison Taylor decided to delay her entrance, Glombowski was induced at McLaren Port Huron hospital New Year's Day.

She gave birth to the first baby born at the hospital in 2023 at 5:19 p.m.

"It is pretty awesome, it wasn’t something we originally planned," the 34-year-old Yale woman said of having the first baby of the year. "I was due four days sooner, she just didn’t want to come out."

Mom and daughter were able to return home Tuesday. Glombowski said her husband, John Glombowski, and her mom were helping settle the new family of five.

"They are like over the moon, they are so excited," she said of her two older daughters, Bailey, 9, and Abby, 8.

While currently on maternity leave, Glombowski is the overnight grocery stocking team leader at the Fort Gratiot Meijer. She said her role and shift will change when she returns to work. Her husband works at SMR in Marysville.

Madison, who was born at 7 pounds and 3 ounces, is settling in at home well.

"We’ve been a family of four for so long, there's now another little one to keep us all on our toes," Glombowski said.
