Youth 'kills' self in front of girlfriend's house

BALANGIR: A lovelorn youth allegedly stabbed himself to death in front of his girlfriend's house at Duanpali village under Sadar police station in Balangir on Sunday. However, police have registered a murder investigation based on a complaint filed by the youth's brother. The youth has been identified as Gandhi Sandh from Kumpathar village who had come to the girl's village on Sunday evening to meet her. He was 22.
"A police team rushed to the spot after getting the information from local sources. The body was found in a pool of blood in front of the girl's house. The body has been sent for postmortem," said Srikanta Sahu, inspector in-charge, Sadar police station.
According to the police, Gandhi was in a relationship with the girl for a long time but the girl's family had objected to it. Three months earlier the couple had attempted suicide by consuming poison but survived. According to local sources, Gandhi came to Duanpali on Sunday and pleaded with the girl's family asking for her hand in marriage. They again rejected the proposal.
