City vendors wait for identification, but no committee yet to do it

Jaipur: Due to lack of town vending committee in the city, thousands of vendors are waiting identification under both the municipal corporations.
Identification and zones were last decided before the pandemic and no meetings have been held since then. With lack of the committee, the corporation is not able to manage the vendors in the city.
Officials said that letters have been written from both the corporations to the district administration, but no action has been taken.
“Vending and non-vending zones were declared to prevent haphazard parking of carts in the city, but management and implementing the system is difficult as strictness is lacking. There are a total of 181 vending zones in the city, for which we are trying to develop basic facilities so that vendors start using these areas and not sell their goods on roads, which leads to traffic problems too,” said an official form JMC Heritage.
“We will soon start a survey for identifying the number of vendors who do not have identity cards and issuing of these cards will also start by next month,” added the official.
The official said that as per estimations, there are around 50,000 vendors in whole of Jaipur city and 13000 had already been given identification proof before the pandemic.
Both JMC Heritage and JMC Greater have been working to manage street vendors in the city to streamline their placements which will help solve traffic issues in the Walled City along with proper management of waste generated by them.
Meanwhile, members of street vendors association in the city said that the survey to identify such vendors is not being conducted properly. They said that those who are actually street vendors are not being given tokens by the corporation due to which they are not identified and action is taken against them by the vigilance teams during inspections.
