CHENNAI: A
fire broke out in the Santhome branch of Bank of India on Tuesday morning. Two cabins and ledgers kept in them, computers and accessories and at least six airconditioners were damaged in the fire. No one was injured.
Police said the fire might have been caused by short circuit in one of the computers that had been kept turned on.
A security guard alerted the fire control room on spotting smoke emanating from the building.
A team led by the Tambaram station fire officer Selvarajan, who was on night duty, rushed to the spot.
Fire personnel from the Mylapore and Triplicane fire station also arrived at the spot. The fire was put out around 5.50am.
The fire did not affect the cash chest and the cashier room.
A case has been registered.
