Sikar brain dead man’s wife donates his liver, both kidneys & heart
Jaipur: A 46-year-old person gave a new lease of life to four persons after his family gave consent to donate his organs here on Monday. Santosh Kajodmal was declared brain dead while undergoing treatment at Sawai Man Singh Hospital.
The brain-dead declaration committee at the hospital declared him brain dead after examining him and conducting certain tests. Following which, organ donation counsellors conducted family’s counselling and encouraged them to donate his organs to save the lives of other patients suffering from organ failure.
His kidneys were transplanted into two patients at SMS hospital suffering from chronic kidney disease, while is liver was transplanted into a patient at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital and his heart was flown to Medanta Gurugram for transplantation, said Dr Manish Sharma, consultant State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO).
Kajodmal, a resident of Sikar, was riding a bike when it was hit by a car while he was returning home after meeting his sister on December 26. He was critically injured and brought to the SMS hospital.
SOTTO officials said that despite all the possible measures taken by the hospital in reviving him, his condition did not improve. After that he was declared brain dead on December 30. His wife took the decision to donate his organs as he was declared brain dead. It was the 50th cadaveric organ donation that took place in the state.
For safe and quick transportation of organs retrieved at SMS hospital, SOTTO sought help of traffic police Jaipur for creating green corridor.
DCP (traffic) Prahlad Singh Krishniya said they created two green corridors – one from SMS hospital to Mahatma Gandhi hospital for liver transportation and one from SMS hospital from Jaipur airport for transportation of heart to Medanta hospital in Gurugram.
The nine kilometer stretch from SMS hospital to Jaipur airport was covered in six kilometers, while it took 16 minutes to cover 18 kilometers from SMS hospital to Mahatma Gandhi hospital.
