Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur east MLA Saryu Rai on Monday claimed that the
Tata Steel has not approved the design of the proposed multi-crore flyover project, which is supposed to come up in Mango in the next few months. Rai said that the draft design of the state road construction department wasn’t approved by the steel major, which commands major part of the Steel City.
He said, “The company didn’t approve the design citing several shortcomings and has given few suggestions to correct it."
He added that if the state government accepted those suggestions, then it would have to make gross changes in the design of the ramps on the up and down flyover. As a consequence of this, project cost will shoot up tremendously. “In all probability, the project will need to get fresh technical and administrative clearance," said Rai.
He said that the abrupt transfer of the chief engineer of the road construction department and head engineer of the Central Design Organisation (CDO) has come as a surprise. "Both the officials were closely associated with the project since its early days, but their sudden transfer is something which is not common here," said the MLA, adding that he has taken up the matter with the secretary of the road construction department raising his objections to it. “Flyover is not required at all if the two pending projects — Anna chowk to Govindpur and an over bridge over Subernarekha river to Litti chowk — are completed. These projects are sufficient to address the traffic congestion issue," Rai said, adding that the Mango flyover project was pushed to fulfil political agenda. "Strangely, the government sanctioned funds for the flyover project, which is yet to get the design approved and get the administrative clearance," Rai added.
The road construction department, secretary, Sunil Kumar, did not respond to the calls, when approached to get his reaction on the claims of Saryu Rai.
