Chennai man murders wife, claims she died of suicide
CHENNAI: The R K Nagar police in Chennai on Tuesday arrested a man who murdered his wife and hanged her body from a ceiling fan to establish that she died of suicide.
Police said Nandakumar, 33, of Tondiarpet created a ruckus at his home on January 1 under the influence of alcohol. His wife Babitha, 22, confronted him. She told him that she would end her life if he continued to do so.
Nandakumar became violent. In a fit of rage, he strangled her with a sari. When she died, he hanged her body from a ceiling fan. Later, he cried for help saying his wife had ended her life.
Doctors in Government Stanley Hospital, who performed postmortem on the body, raised the suspicion that the woman might have been killed. Based on this info, the police questioned Nandakumar. Initially, he claimed to have been innocent. Later he admitted to having strangled his wife under the influence of alcohol.
Nandakumar was remanded in judicial custody.
