HC: Can’t develop Mahim park until DP shows it as reserved

The Bombay high court on Monday said that so long as Mahim Nature Park (MNP) is reserved in the development plan (DP) of Mumbai, it cannot be developed for any other purpose. “So long as the DP shows it as nature park, no other activity can be carried out on it,” Justices Sanjay Gangapurwala and Sandeep Marne said, disposing of a PIL filed by NGO Vanashakti and activist Zoru Bhathena seeking to ensure the park, a protected forest, was not covered under the Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP). The PIL said the park was a hub forbio-diversity and boasted of a variety of flora and fauna.

Traffic curbs in south Mumbai for India-Lanka T20 today

  • Traffic police issued restrictions at south Mumbai for Tuesday as an India vs Sri Lanka T20 cricket match is going to be played at Wankhede Stadium.
  • Parking restrictions (from 3pm-11. 45pm): D Road, C Road, F Road, F Cross Road; E Road from its junction on D Road up to its junction on C Road; On NS Road from Princess Street flyover to Sundar Mahal Junction (South-bound and Northbound).
  • Changes in routine traffic pattern (from 3pm-11. 45 pm): DRoad shall be one-way from West to East; C Road shall be one-way from East to West; E Road shall be one-way (southbound) for all vehicles from its junction on D Road up to its junction on C Road.

Senior IPS officer Deven Bharti is likely to be appointed as the special commissioner of police, Mumbai. While deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is also state home minister, did not respond to TOI's messages, a high-ranking bureaucrat confirmed that the post of special commissioner is being created to accommodate Bharti. Police commissioner Milind Bharambe has suspended a police sub-inspector attached to the Sanpada police station for not filing an FIR against a 'drunk' constable accused of molesting a 19-year-old woman, an IIT-B student, on Palm Beach road on December 30.
