PUNE: Cash, gold and diamond studded ornaments totally worth Rs 64.72 lakh were stolen in two separate burglaries at a flat in Kothrud and at a row house in Dhayari.
The first incident occurred sometime between December 13 and 29 in the flat owned by businessman Chandrashekhar Chaudhari (79) at Rambaug colony in Kothrud from where the burglars stole gold and diamond studded ornaments worth Rs41.16 lakh from a locker in the bedroom cupboard.
Senior inspector Hemant Patil of the Kothrud police told TOI, “Chaudhari and his returned from Dubai on December 31 after receiving a call from their daughter about the burglary.” He added, “We are analyzing CCTV footage collected from the vicinity.”
When contacted, Chaudhari told TOI, “Our three-storied building has one flat on each floor and I stay on the top floor. I never anticipated a burglary in the top floor flat. A security guard from a neighboring building alerted my daughter.”
The other burglary occurred between 2.52am and 3.18am on January 1 at the Dhayari row house of Ashish Pasalkar, who is the deputy sarpanch of Panshet village. CCTV footage from this spot showed three men reaching the row house on a high-end motorcycle. The trio had covered their faces with masks.
Inspector (crime) Jayant Rajurkar from Sinhagad Road police said, “On December 31, the Pasalkars were at their Pashan home when three men used a sharp weapon to break their door and cupboard locks. We are in the process of establishing the identity of the burglars . We hope to detect the burglary as soon as possible,” Rajurkar added.
