Man trying to kidnap toddler dies
Ludhiana: A man who allegedly attempted to kidnap a 2.5-year-old girl at Ram Nagar of Bhamian Kalan died during treatment. He was taken to hospital after local residents nabbed him and thrashed him before handing him over to the police. Sources said that the man had managed to pick up the girl but was spotted by her mother and local residents, who attacked him.
The accused has been identified as Jagjatin Singh, 34, a resident of Jhabewal village and a factory worker. Jamalpur Police, on Friday, lodged an FIR against him on the complaint of Kanhaiya Kumar of Ram Nagar, the toddler’s father.
The complainant alleged that his daughter Anshika, 2.5, was playing outside the house when at around 6pm, his wife Puneeta heard the child’s cries. She rushed outside to find a man trying to kidnap the child and raised an alarm. People gathered at the spot, rescued the girl and beat him up before handing him over to the police.
The man was severely injured and admitted to the civil hospital, from where he was referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh in critical condition. Police said he was married and had a child. tnn
