Farmers want channel from Amaravathy to Uppar dam
Tirupur: Tamilaga Vivasayigal Sangam has urged the state government to construct a water channel from the Amaravathy dam to the Uppar dam located near Dharapuram.
Kali Muthu, president of the association, said the move would help fill the Uppar dam in the dry season so as to irrigate farmlands in the vicinity. “Besides, the Uppar dam must also receive water from the Parambikulam-Aliyar project (PAP) as the region has received good rainfall this season. In a first step, the government must release water from the fourth zone to the Uppar dam. Subsequently, once the works to link the Uppar dam to the PAP canal is completed, the district administration must ensure farmers who have not benefitted under the project get water for irrigation,” Kali Muthu said.
