VIJAYAWADA: At least three women reportedly died in a stampede that took place in a programme organised by the TDP to distribute `Chandranna Kanuka' kits to the poor, in Guntur on Sunday evening.

The incident comes close on the heels of the death of eight persons in a stampede at Naidu's roadshow in Kandukur of Nellore district on December 28, 2022.

According to reports reaching here, the NRI wing of the TDP organised the programme at Vikas Nagar in Guntur town to distribute Chandranna Kanuka kits to the poor. After distributing the kits to select beneficiaries, Naidu addressed the gathering and left the venue.

Soon after Naidu left, the women jostled with one another to rush towards the dais to get their kit. The barricades gave away and the women fell on each other. As the situation turned chaotic, the organisers called off the distribution of kits.

At least six women suffered injuries in the stampede and were shifted to hospitals. While one woman died on the spot, two others succumbed while undergoing treatment.

Further updates awaited.
