SIT nabs key accused Syamlal from Chennai
Thiruvananthapuram: In a major breakthrough in the Titanium job fraud case, the special investigation team on Saturday morning arrested key accused Syamlal from a hotel in Chennai. He will be remanded after producing before a court on Sunday.
Following a tip-off, a police team had gone to Chennai on Friday itself. During the interrogation, the probe team understood that the government move to transfer the recruitment process at Travancore Titanium Products Limited (TTPL) to PSC in 2018 ruined the accused’s plans. However, Syamlal told the probe team that no candidates got placed at TTPL through them. Meanwhile, the probe team is planning to investigate the list of all appointments made at TTPL in the last six years to unearth the involvement of the accused in appointments made. Syamlal’s close connection with Sasikumaran Thampi, AGM (legal and HR) at TTPL, helped him execute the fraud and his influence at the office of TTPL made all candidates and the agents believe his promise of providing jobs at TTPL. Thampi also played a pivotal role in the fraud as he interviewed candidates at his office and also published rank-lists.
Syamlal’s wife had worked at TTPL earlier, and it also helped him. The probe team said Syamlal and Thampi were classmates and it was through him Syamlal came to know about the vacancies at TTPL.
Syamlal told the agents that there are 600 vacancies at TTPL and immediate hiring will take place for 200 posts. He claimed it as a wonderful chance to mint money and directed all his agents to reach out to young people who are desperately looking for jobs.
The probe team has also received clues about several other agents involved in the job fraud.
Other than Divya Jyothi, her husband Rajesh, and Premkumar, the brother of Rajesh, Manacaud native Anil, Richardson, Shamnad, Jose and John also worked as agents as per the direction of Syamlal.
