NOIDA: Police have arrested three people, including two women, for duping MBBS aspirants by promising them admissions to government and private medical colleges across the country.
However, the kingpin of the gang, which allegedly tricked over 50 students who failed to crack NEET, is on the run.
The three accused have been identified as Taskeer Ahmad Khan, a Delhi resident, and Hritik Singh and Vaishali Pal, both residents of Ghaziabad.
They are all graduates who worked with 'Career Junction' in Noida's Sector 63, a firm floated by the kingpin-Vijender-to dupe people, in various capacities.
Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) -1 (central Noida) Amit Singh said that the gang would target medical aspirants who had failed or didn't do well in the NEET exam.
"In September, the gang published advertisements to enroll people for telecalling and other jobs. A month later, they acquired the data of students who failed to crack the NEET exam after the results were declared, and began contacting their potential targets," the ACP said.
During interrogation, the accused told the cops that they would contact their potential targets via various social media platforms on the pretext of providing counselling for next year's NEET exams and would subsequently trick them into paying Rs 15-30 lakh each for admissions to medical colleges.
"The gang has cheated over 50 medical aspirants since opening their office in Noida in September 2022," the ACP said.
"We have received 25 complaints since December 25, after the victims realised that the MBBS admission letters given to them were fake."
All the accused have been booked under sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 120B (party to criminal conspiracy) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC.
"We are trying to figure out the exact amount of money the victims have been cheated of. Our teams are also conducting raids to nab the other members of the gang, including the kingpin," Amit Kumar Maan, in-charge of Sector 63 police station, said.
