PATNA: The Danapur RPF (Railway Protection Force) on Saturday claimed to have unearthed a gang of bootleggers involved in illegally carrying India-made foreign liquor (IMFL) clandestinely inside the coaches of Ahmedabad-Patna clone special train (09447).
The RPF team seized 13,806 litres of the IMFL worth over Rs10.53 lakh and arrested 23 bootleggers during surprise raids carried out on the running train on Friday night, said Danapur RPF senior commandant Prakash Kumar Panda.
According to Panda, the Danapur RPF got a tip-off that bootleggers were carrying a huge quantity of liquor bottles by the special train to make a fast buck on the
eve of New Year celebrations.
These bootleggers had preferred this special train because it reached Patna Junction late night and perhaps they would escape unnoticed, he said.
The RPF team escorting the train was informed about it. When the train reached Dildarnagar station, additional RPF men boarded the train and started combing operation in each coach and arrested the bootleggers with the consignments, Panda said.
