Caller threatens to blow up RSS HQ, security beefed up
Nagpur: Security has been beefed up at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters in Nagpur after an unidentified caller threatened to blow it up with a bomb.
According to sources, a man called on a special number, which has not been made public, of the police control room around 1pm on Saturday and threatened to blow up the RSS HQ in Mahal. The man immediately disconnected the call thereafter. The control room employee informed senior police officers about the threat call.
CP Amitesh Kumar said it was a voice call. "The caller said there would be a blast at RSS today. We are ascertaining the source and the reason," he added.
“Patrolling has been intensified as a precautionary measure. We are tracing the phone number to identify the caller,” said a senior cop from Nagpur city police. Commissioner of police Amitesh Kumar was not available for his comments.
Soon, senior police officers reviewed security of the RSS headquarters. A bomb detection and disposal squad and a dog squad were pressed into service, but the threat turned out to be a hoax call as nothing suspicious was found.
Taking no chances, security around the premises has been beefed up further.
Police have been deployed on the route leading to the Sangh headquarters. Everyone is being thoroughly checked and interrogated, say sources.
Meanwhile, cyber department of the city police too started probe to identify the anonymous caller. Sources, however, wondered how the caller got the special number of the police control room.
A senior cop from Kotwali police station told TOI that as a vital installation, security at the RSS premises is always on alert. Apart from deployment of local police, CISF, quick response team (QRT) and State Reserve Police Force jawans are deployed there on daily basis, he said. “The RSS HQ is guarded by Central Industrial Security Force, while Nagpur city police personnel manage security of its outer circle,” he said.
A month ago, the city police had cracked a similar case wherein a 44 year-old deputy engineer with the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company had penned a letter threatening to blow up the RSS HQ. He had despatched the letter from Zero Mile speed post outlet on November 24. After scanning footages from over 250 CCTV cameras, the city police had detained the person on November 30.
