Ranchi: Executives of Heavy Engineering Corporation Ltd (HEC), Ranchi, who have been on a strike for the last 59 days and without salaries for the last 14 months, went out of their way to arrange speedy despatch of vital components manufactured at HEC to the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) to reiterate their commitment to the country's Make in India campaign and save the PSU from sliding into oblivion.
“We have been on a dharna since November 3 to demand salaries. Yet in national interest our executives, along with the workers, who too, have been going without wages for the last 10 months, have joined hands, to ensure speedy despatch of vital components to BARC. The components, once delivered, would fetch Rs 10 crores of precious funds to HEC,” the agitating executives revealed.
HEC has long been starved of funds, to either pay its employees or procure raw materials and other inputs to keep its plants running, with the result that all the three plants have been forced to lie idle for months together. Yet the present management has failed to take any initiative. “We had hoped that the Union ministry of heavy industries would take stern steps to enforce some semblance of an order at HEC, though that too, has not been forthcoming,” the agitating executives stressed. HEC is all set to step into the New Year with uncertainty looming large and production and sales schedules in complete disarray.
