24 in fray for posts of DBA office-bearers
Ludhiana: A total of 24 candidates are in the fray in elections to posts of District Bar Association office-bearers, which are likely to be held on January 6. Elections will be held for the posts of president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary, finance secretary and six executive members, said assistant returning officer, advocate Lalita Jain.
The ARO said that while there are three persons contesting for the post of president, two are in the fray for vice-president, three for secretary, four for joint secretary, two for finance secretary and 10 persons are contesting for six posts of executive members. She added that on January 3, candidates will debate bar-related issues. The debate will be organised by the election committee.
Returning officer Kamaljit Sharma said that six booths are being set up for elections in the conference hall. He added that there are 2,732 voters for DBA elections and 450 are expected to cast their votes per booth. The RO added that there will be separate queue for women and senior members and ARO would be in-charge of each booth.
Election authorities said that while two AROs will keep a watch on ballot boxes, two will be deputed for general supervision. He added that CCTV cameras are being installed in the conference room and at the entrance. Arrangements have been made for secret polling and display screen will be put up at two places. “Counting of votes will start half an hour after 5pm, when polling ends. While votes for posts of president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary and finance secretary will be declared the same day, result of executive members’ posts will be declared the next day,” said the returning officer.
