Mangaluru: People thronged various hotels, restaurants, resorts and beaches, to celebrate the last day of 2022, and welcome the New Year. The multi-cuisine spread in several hotels and restaurants, lifted the spirit, and attracted revellers for the New Year celebration, along with mega revelry with music, dance, and fireworks. A few hotels arranged karaoke singing, fun and games, surprise gifts, a grand gala, and buffet dinner.
Several apartments were lit, and cultural programmes were organised. Police personnel were deployed in large numbers. Earlier during the day, city police commissioner N Shashi Kumar told reporters that checkposts have been set up at 32 places, to prevent any untoward incident, especially drunken driving. “We will also keep a tab on youth engaged in drag racing and rash diving. Police deployment was increased at all prominent places, including places of worship and beaches,” he said.
Meanwhile, automobile giant Anand Mahindra’s New Year wish on Twitter had a coastal touch, as he shared a video of a girl dancing before the Kateel temple elephant. He tweeted: “Sri Durgaparameshwari temple , Kateel, Karnataka. Amazing. And I would like to think the Temple Elephant is bestowing a blessing on all of us for a Happier New Year! “
