Gurgaon: A leak in the pipeline from the Chandu Budhera water treatment plant to the boosting station in Sector 51 disrupted supply to many parts of the city for the past two days.
Thousands of families living in areas such as sectors 45 and 51, Mayfield Garden, South City-2, Malibu Towne, Ardee City and Sushant Lok 2-3 were badly affected.
Though the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) claimed the leakage was fixed and supply restored late on Saturday evening, residents said the sudden crisis compelled them to rely on private tankers to meet their daily requirements.
Puneet Pahwa, general secretary of Sector 45 RWA, said, “There was a hue and cry in the sector and we only got to know about the leakage near Basai on Saturday. The crisis forced us to pay Rs 1,200-1,500 to private tankers for water for the past two days. The GMDA, in such a crisis, should ensure water supply via tankers at subsidised rates and also roll out a helpline number.”
“Many people have friends and relatives at home and such a crisis is really a spoilsport. If this is the situation in winter, God knows what will happen in the summer season,” said Dharamveer Yadav, a resident of Mayfield Garden.
However, a GMDA official said, “We detected the pipeline burst near Basai flyover on Thursday evening on the supply pipeline from Chandu Budhera to the Sector 51 boosting station. We had to stop supply to carry out repairs. The work is completed and supply has been restored."
Residents, meanwhile, slammed the authority for lack of communication.
“We would have informed our residents had there been some sort of communication from the GMDA. I believe it would take at least a day or two to streamline water supply in the area as all the lines are empty,” said Neeraj Yadav, RWA president of South City-2.
