KALABURAGI: Those who have their names registered on a voter list and then attempt to register their names on another constituency's voter list shall be punished with one year of imprisonment. Additionally, they will not be allowed to vote in the forthcoming polls, said Kalaburagi deputy commissioner Yashwanth Gurukar.
In a meeting on Friday, he said that 6,000 new voters had been enrolled in their respective constituencies in the month of June. Additionally, 6,000 newly submitted applications have been received to register their names, even though their names have been listed in the Kalaburagi-North and Kalaburagi-South constituencies.
4,000 applications have been submitted seeking to add their names to the Kalaburagi-North constituency and 2,000 applications have been filed to add their names to the Kalaburagi-South constituency.
In spite of their names appearing on the voters' list, they still seek to register their names. This clearly indicates that they wanted to rig the voting process.
He also warned voters not to give their voting cards to any other person and not to share the data of their voting cards. A voter's details may be misused if they share their card details and the voter will be liable for it, he warned.
Then voters should refrain from repeatedly adding their names to the voters' list, otherwise, legal action will be taken against them, said Yashwanth. Across the state, the authorities in every district have been working to update the voters’ list in time for the assembly elections.
