MANDYA: JD(S) national president and former PM HD Deve Gowda on Friday heaped praise on Union home and cooperation minister Amit Shah during the launch of a new mega dairy at Manmul in Gejjalagere of Maddur taluk, Mandya.
Gowda said Shah has worked tirelessly to curb corruption in cooperative banks across the country, and has empowered the dairy sector.
Gowda said when he became the prime minister, there were 12 milk societies in the entire state. "My son, former minister HD Revanna, wanted to merge them into a mega dairy. Accordingly, when I approached
Verghese Kurien, father of the White Revolution in India, he responded positively," he recalled.
Calling Shah "active and brilliant", the JD(S) patriarch said politics aside, he has a lot of respect for him. He went on to say that when Revanna was in Delhi for four days to discuss and get clearance for many development projects, Shah responded to him positively.
"He called a meeting of officials amid his schedule and focused on the issue. It shows his good character," Gowda said. Shah on Friday inaugurated the mega dairy in Manmul, built at a cost of Rs 260.9 crore.
Shah holds meeting with Old Mysuru BJP leadersOn a day when he sounded the poll bugle in the Vokkaliga heartland by attending a BJP Janasankalpa Yatra in Mandya, Shah also held a meeting of BJP functionaries from Old Mysuru region to discuss the strategy for the upcoming assembly elections.
The meeting, convened at a private hotel in Bengaluru, is expected to iron out differences between senior leaders from the districts of Hassan, Mysuru, Mandya and Chamarajanagar.
