NOIDA/GREATER NOIDA: The district police is all set to deploy personnel with body-worn cameras and breathalysers to keep a check on any untoward incident during the New Year’s eve. Besides, fire tenders, quick response teams and vehicle lifting cranes will also be pressed to duty for emergency situations.
“Over 350 police officers, with body cameras, will be deployed at busy areas, with special focus on sectors 18 and 38, where a large footfall is expected during the celebration,” Rambadan Singh, deputy commissioner of police (headquarters/central zone), said.
Ganesh Saha, deputy commissioner of police (traffic), said, “Drink driving will also be checked outside malls and party venues. If a person is found drunk while driving, we will try to send them safely in cabs. Pickets will be set up at multiple places,”
Harish Chander, deputy commissioner of police, mentioned that safety arrangements at crowded places have also been checked. “We have inspected the hand-held metal detectors of security personnel in malls, car metal detectors at parking areas and the CCTV cameras at these places. Further, Noida has been divided into 30 sectors, each being assigned a police officer since we want people to enjoy but not create a ruckus in the name of celebration,” he said.
Rajneesh Verma, assistant commissioner of police, said they are paying extra attention to the Gardens Galleria mall. “We are expecting a footfall of over 40,000 at the mall alone. Hence, the 287 CCTV cameras will be under scrutiny of the police as well,” said Verma. Dial 112 booth has also been set up outside the mall for emergencies.
DCP Saha said that arrangements have also been made to ease traffic in the district. “Vehicle lifting cranes will be deployed to ensure that any vehicle breakdown doesn’t result in a traffic jam,” he added.
