GUWAHATI: Northeast CMs have expressed profound grief and sadness over the passing of Hiraben Modi, PM Narendra Modi's mother. Both the ruling and opposition parties mourned Hiraben's demise in a hospital in Ahmedabad on Friday. She was 100.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "For 100 glorious years, Heeraben Maa blessed us all with her affection. She was a symbol of simplicity, humility and conviction. As she leaves for heavenly abode, with teary eyes, I join millions in prayers.
May her blessings always be with us." Former Assam CM and Union minister
Sarbananda Sonowal in a statement said, "Nothing can compensate for the loss of a mother. My sincerest condolences to the Hon'ble PM. Om Shanti."
Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu tweeted, "In her quiet certitude, Maa Heeraben displayed exemplary grace. An icon of simplicity, Maa lived an endearing life and was always generous in her blessings.
As she leaves for her heavenly abode, I pray to Lord Buddha for peace to her soul." Khandu called the PM a true karmyogi, as Modi was back to business and virtually flagged off the Vande Bharat Express in Bengal hours after cremating his mother.
Extending his condolences to the PM, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma tweeted, "Losing a parent is an unthinkable loss and losing a mother is the most painful. May God grant him and his family comfort during this difficult time." Tripura CM Manik Saha, Nagaland CM
Neiphiu Rio and his Mizoram counterpart Zoramthanga also consoled Modi. "May all the beautiful memories of your mother help you through this difficult time," Zoramthanga tweeted.
